Our customers compete in competitive markets and cannot afford un-anticipated cost increases. It is our job to anticipate, prevent, and fix all issues relating to sourcing, procurement, production, and distribution. To that end we have created software and processes to control and share this information with our supply chains and customers.

Design Review

Our process begins with a complete design review of the part. In this stage we pour over the engineering prints associated with the project. We consider the tolerances, material, production methods, and inspection planning.

It is our main objective here to understand what issues we may have in production and inspection. This becomes useful during the lead time to prepare the quality lab as well as obtain tools needed. We also use this while creating the production plan and accounting for possible production problems.

Planning

At this point we now have data from 3 main sources

  • Procurement Information Gathering Stage
  • Design Review
  • Experience and Industry Standards
  • From here the quality department and procurement departments develop a strategy for production, inspection, and distribution. This will drive the company focus and decisions as the part is implemented into service.

Preparation

We now have information and procurement & quality strategies. Often times these strategies require additional tools in our quality department, possible secondary vendor relationships, or other supply chain considerations.

We implement what will be needed for production planning and logistics optimization, proper quality analysis and inspection, and distribution and delivery considerations for the customer. The objective is to have everything in place for distribution before the part comes in.

Inspection & Analysis

When samples are shipped, we begin our inspection and analysis. All parts pass through an inspection of varying levels according to customer requirements and Chess minimum standards.

Our state-of-the-art lab includes all tools neccessary to inspect and document all projects we take. This includes:

  • CMM
  • Optical Comparitor
  • Microsope
  • Hardness Tester
  • Surface Roughness
  • Johnson Gages
  • Ring Gages
  • Calipers
  • Bench Micrometers
  • Various other tools obtained for dimensions discovered in the design & contract review stage.

Documentation

Documentation of all findings is extremely detailed with Chess Group. It is from these findings and documented experiences that we have created a knowledgebase of information to assist in future procurement.

We provide all basic document types such as PPAP, FAI, as well as various statistical process studies and custom studies we have created in-house.

Transparency

The final step is transparency. We input all data into our ERP which provides a window into your part, process, and inspection like no other system.

With our system you can see all inspections, process flow and FMEAs, root cause analysis any other quality activity in real time. You can even see what gage we are using for each dimension and the calibration data on each gage.
